John A. Kelly is a filmmaker, creative director, producer, and founder of Bleeding Rivers Films, an independent production company dedicated to documenting modern-day history through powerful stories of culture, survival, sacrifice, and legacy.
A native of Brentwood, New York, Kelly began his creative career behind the camera as a photographer and videographer, developing an eye for capturing people, environments, and culturally significant moments. His career expanded into studio management, marketing, content creation, creative direction, and production — giving him experience not only in creating imagery, but in developing concepts and building projects from the initial idea through execution. His professional background includes photography and video production, marketing campaigns, client presentations, social-media strategy, studio operations, and creative development.
Kelly founded Bleeding Rivers Films to create cinematic work centered on people and events whose stories represent the history being written in our lifetime. The company's approach combines documentary storytelling with culture, personal experience, archival history, and intimate access to preserve stories that deserve a permanent place in the historical record.
That mission is embodied in Kelly's feature documentary project, SURVIVAL: The Buddy McGirt Story, which chronicles the life and legacy of two-division world champion and Hall of Fame trainer James "Buddy" McGirt. For Kelly, the project also carries a personal connection: both he and McGirt come from Brentwood, Long Island, giving the filmmaker a perspective rooted not only in boxing history, but in the community that helped shape the story.
Kelly's work is ultimately driven by a larger purpose: to use film as a record of modern-day history — capturing the people, communities, struggles, victories, and cultural moments of today so their stories remain accessible to generations that follow.
